Taliban Chief Vows Attack

No credible evidence, no details, no signs of an imminent attack, but Taliban chief is vowing an “amazing attack on Washington soon”. Those were his words. I thought this was worth mentioning because this President is focusing on the economy, which he should, but not that much on national security. The head of The CIA has no intelligence experience and he wants to release Guantanamo prisoners. I feel safer already.

Pistachios Scare

From Fox News:

In another food scare sure to rattle consumers who watched the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts unfold, federal food officials are now warning people not to eat any food containing pistachios, which could carry contamination from the same bacteria. The Food and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the nation's second-largest pistachio processor, was voluntarily recalling more than 2 million pounds of its roasted nuts shipped since last fall. "Our advice to consumers is that they avoid eating pistachio products, and that they hold onto those products," said Dr. David Acheson, assistant commissioner for food safety. "The number of products that are going to be recalled over the coming days will grow, simply because these pistachio nuts have then been repackaged into consumer-level containers."

Obama Pushes GM CEO Out

Yesterday, in my opinion, the government has crossed the line. I understand that the automobile industry has been struggling for years now and almost at the brink of collapse. I understand that the losses have to end at some point and the bailout money has to stop at one point. But is it really the U.S. governments place to ask a CEO to step down? I feel the answer is NO. Rick Wagoner, CEO of GM, was forced to step down today after 8 years as CEO. A White House official told Fox News that Wagoner was asked the Administration to step down as a precondition for the company to continue to get help with its restructuring. Notice how Obama made the press conference after the news was made public of the “ousting” of Wagoner. That means that he was told that if he did not leave, GM would not receive anymore bailout money. Democracy or Socialist ?? It will look like he resigned for the good of the company, which he did, but remember that he was forced out. I wonder if Obama will force AIG’s CEO to step down after the bonus mishap ??. Also, the U.S. government is backing all warranties for all new cars from GM. What’s next ?? The U.S. government will say they will stop backing all warranties and force the car owners to buy more fuel efficient and “green” cars ?? Many might say this is no big deal, but think about the last time a U.S. president told a CEO from a public company to leave his job ?? Go ahead………continue to think. You don’t have an answer, right ?? That’s because it has not happened. I don’t like what I am seeing and it only further proves what I have been saying for months now – he has socialistic ideologies and has always surrounded himself with terrorists, socialists, and corrupted people. Why change now when you are the ultimate boss ?? On the other hand, he will help those who helped him throughout his “political career”.

The beginning....

Please read the story below. I have read about this in the past and this is the beginning of our mortgage crisis.

REAL SCANDAL:
HOW FEDS INVITED THE MORTGAGE MESS
By STAN LIEBOWITZ

February 5, 2008 — PERHAPS the greatest scandal of the mortgage crisis is that it is a direct result of an intentional loosening of underwriting standards - done in the name of ending discrimination, despite warnings that it could lead to wide-scale defaults. At the crisis’ core are loans that were made with virtually nonexistent underwriting standards - no verification of income or assets; little consideration of the applicant’s ability to make payments; no down payment.

Most people instinctively understand that such loans are likely to be unsound. But how did the heavily-regulated banking industry end up to engage in such foolishness? From the current hand-wringing, you’d think that the banks came up with the idea of looser underwriting standards on their own, with regulators just asleep on the job. In fact, it was the regulators who relaxed these standards - at the behest of community groups and “progressive” political forces.

In the 1980s, groups such as the activists at ACORN began pushing charges of “redlining” - claims that banks discriminated against minorities in mortgage lending. In 1989, sympathetic members of Congress got the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act amended to force banks to collect racial data on mortgage applicants; this allowed various studies to be ginned up that seemed to validate the original accusation.

In fact, minority mortgage applications rejected more frequently than other applications - but the overwhelming reason wasn’t racial discrimination, but simply that minorities tend to have weaker finances. Yet a “landmark” 1992 study from the Boston Fed concluded that mortgage-lending discrimination was systemic.

That study was tremendously flawed - a colleague and I later showed that the data it had used contained thousands of egregious typos, such as loans with negative interest rates. Our study found no evidence of discrimination. Yet the political agenda triumphed - with the president of the Boston Fed saying no new studies were needed, and the US comptroller of the currency seconding the motion.

No sooner had the ink dried on its discrimination study than the Boston Fed, clearly speaking for the entire Fed, produced a manual for mortgage lenders stating that: “discrimination may be observed when a lender’s underwriting policies contain arbitrary or outdated criteria that effectively disqualify many urban or lower-income minority applicants.”

Some of these “outdated” criteria included the size of the mortgage payment relative to income, credit history, savings history and income verification. Instead, the Boston Fed ruled that participation in a credit-counseling program should be taken as evidence of an applicant’s ability to manage debt.

Sound crazy? You bet. Those “outdated” standards existed to limit defaults. But bank regulators the loosened underwriting standards, with approval by politicians and the chattering class. A 1995 strengthening of the Community Reinvestment Act required banks to find ways to provide mortgages to their poorer communities. It also let community activists intervene at yearly bank reviews, shaking the banks down for large pots of money. Banks that got poor reviews were punished; some saw their merger plans frustrated; others faced direct legal challenges by the Justice Department.

Flexible lending programs expanded even though they had higher default rates than loans with traditional standards. On the Web, you can still find CRA loans available via ACORN with “100 percent financing . . . no credit scores . . . undocumented income . . . even if you don’t report it on your tax returns.” Credit counseling is required, of course.

Ironically, an enthusiastic Fannie Mae Foundation report singled out one paragon of nondiscriminatory lending, which worked with community activists and followed “the most flexible underwriting criteria permitted.” That lender’s $1 billion commitment to low-income loans in 1992 had grown to $80 billion by 1999 and $600 billion by early 2003. Who was that virtuous lender? Why - Countrywide, the nation’s largest mortgage lender, recently in the headlines as it hurtled toward bankruptcy.

In an earlier newspaper story extolling the virtues of relaxed underwriting standards, Countrywide’s chief executive bragged that, to approve minority applications that would otherwise be rejected “lenders have had to stretch the rules a bit.” He’s not bragging now. For years, rising house prices hid the default problems since quick refinances were possible. But now that house prices have stopped rising, we can clearly see the damage caused by relaxed lending standards.

This damage was quite predictable: “After the warm and fuzzy glow of ‘flexible underwriting standards’ has worn off, we may discover that they are nothing more than standards that lead to bad loans . . . these policies will have done a disservice to their putative beneficiaries if . . . they are dispossessed from their homes.” I wrote that, with Ted Day, in a 1998 academic article.
Sadly, we were spitting into the wind.

These days, everyone claims to favor strong lending standards. What about all those self-righteous newspapers, politicians and regulators who were intent on loosening lending standards? As you might expect, they are now self-righteously blaming those, such as Countrywide, who did what they were told.

Obama Scraps "Global War on Terror"

In a memo sent this week from the Defense Department's office of security to Pentagon staffers, members were told that the administration prefers not to use the terms “Long War” or “Global War on Terror (GWOT) and to please use “Overseas Contingency Operation.” If no one has noticed this new phrase has been used a few times already when talking about the wars in Iraq and AfghanistanWhat the hell is this about? Aren’t we fighting terrorists around the globe? I tell you these liberals are something else.

They want everything sugarcoated so the public views it differently. It’s like the gas. When gas was almost $4 a gallon, everyone was upset. When it dropped to $3.20, everyone was happy. But what they don’t see is the fact that before the gas rose to $4 a gallon, it was at $2-something. At that point we are satisfied with a $0.40 drop, but we were still over a dollar away from were we used to be. That’s how our minds work. The same way it will be with the two wars. I don’t think it is right to drop the word “Terror” from our wars. That is our enemy !! That is what we are trying to keep out of our country.

Czech PM Understands

At least someone else gets it:

The European Union president, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, said Wednesday that Barack Obama's massive stimulus package and banking bailout "will undermine the stability of the global financial market." Most European leaders favor tighter financial regulation, while the U.S. has been pushing for larger economic stimulus plans.

Topolanek said that "the United States did not take the right path.” He slammed the U.S. widening budget deficit and protectionist trade measures — such as the "Buy America" — and said that "all of these steps, these combinations and permanency is the way to hell." "We need to read the history books and the lessons of history and the biggest success of the (EU) is the refusal to go this way," he said. "Americans will need liquidity to finance all their measures and they will balance this with the sale of their bonds but this will undermine the stability of the global financial market," said Topolanek.

Post Office Bailout ??

Postmaster General John Potter says that without help from the federal government, the U.S. Postal Service will run out of money this year. Potter informed Congress that salaries will get paid, but other bills will have to wait. He has requested in the past to reduce mail delivery to 5 days a week in order to reduce costs. Last year the post office lost $2.8 billion and is facing a bigger loss this year.

North Korea Saga

UPDATE: North Korea is two-thirds of the way from launching a missile as reported by South Korea. The missile is a 3-step process and after that it will need fuel. South Korea says that the missile could be launched as early as this weekend; earlier than the first week of April as originally said last week. As mentioned in earlier posts, the U.S has said that there is a “high probability” it would intercept a missile heading towards the U.S. The reason for this is that the missile has the capability to reach Alaska if it is used in that manner. Secretary Hillary Clinton said that if fired the incident would not go unnoticed; implying sanctions against North Korea.

The launch can cause tension in the region to rise as this will be a clear violation of the U.N. Security Council resolution 1718 and a serious challenge to regional security and an act of aggression. Also developing is the U.S. has sent two warships of the waters of Japan with anti-missile capabilities. U.S., Japan, and South Korea have threaten North Korea with “serious consequences” if the launch occurs. The North says that the launch is a “satellite test”. The missile is scheduled to fly over Japan and they have said if that does happen that it will be shot down. The North threatens anyone who shoots down the “satellite” as an act of war. More to follow as a launch may be imminent.

No Press

I read this yesterday and thought to pass it along to my loyal readers.

President Obama on March 21 was presented the “Newsmaker of the Year” award by the National Newspaper Publishers Association. The award was given to Obama because of his achievement and the overall promise of his administration. He will receive the award from the federation of black community newspapers in a White House ceremony. The White House closed the doors of the ceremony to the press !! Let’s not forget that the president promised to run the most transparent presidential administration EVER.

Company Tax Cheats

We now learn that 13 firms received billions in bailout money, but they owe $220 million in unpaid federal taxes. Two companies owe over $100 million apiece. Here’s the catch: Banks and firms that received federal money were required to sign contracts stating they had no unpaid taxes. The Treasury Department did not ask to see their records.

The reason they found the unpaid taxes is because they were reviewing the records for the top 23 firms that received the most bailout money. There are a total of 470 recipients of bailout money, imagine if they looked at all the companies. Another example of the incompetence of our Treasury Department to go along with the AIG bonuses scandal. This is just a huge revolving door that will not get fixed just by throwing money at the problem. I wonder if an audit will be conducted knowing about this now.

Terrorists Among Us

Imagine a day when you are eating at Chili’s and sitting in the booth next you is a former Guantanamo prisoner held captive as an “enemy combatant”. Well my friends, that day is around the corner sooner than later. Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday that some of the 240 detainees will be sent to Europe or other countries while freeing others. Each prisoner’s case will be reviewed on an individual basis and determined if the prisoners need to be put on trial or whether they can be released.

There are a few options for prisoners in the second category, who can be released. Among them is the possibility they can be released in the U.S., for example: 17 Chinese Muslims who the U.S says that they can not be returned to China because they would face persecution. That’s not my problem. They should have thought of it before doing what they did. Holder met with European Union leaders and urged them to take some of the detainees, but they questioned the request because the U.S was not taking any of the prisoners so why should they.

I think this is a big national security issue considering that these individuals are at Guantanamo for a reason. The same people who hate America will be released within her. These are people who their own country doesn’t even want them. Doesn’t that mean something ??

Tsunami Warning

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific about an hour ago 130 miles from Tonga and 300 miles from Fiji. No tsunami has been detected, but experts say an earthquake of this magnitude has the potential to be very destructive. More to follow.

North Korea Missile Launch

North Korea is still going to test a long range missile in early April despite expressed concerns from Japan and U.S. North Korea says that they are launching a communication satellite into space. A couple senior U.S. commanders have said that if the U.S. is called upon to shoot down the missile, they are ready. They say that the threat is real and there is a high probability that the U.S. would knock down the missile. This is a matter of national security due to the fact that the missile would head towards the U.S. general direction and land some where in the Pacific Ocean. More to follow as the story develops.

ACORN and the U.S. Census

As we all know, the Obama administration wants to bring the U.S. Census into the White House for next years 2010 census. Why is this alarming ?? The process is supposed to be free of politics and Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel is going to oversee it. Because the U.S. Census not only counts how many people (legal or illegal) live within the U.S, the census is used for the appointment of seats in the House of Representatives. From that the Electoral College is also affected. Having said that, the outcome is pretty delicate if the numbers were to be adjusted in any given direction.

We now learn that ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, will participate in next year's count. Who is ACORN ?? ACORN was founded by two guys in 1970 with one being a member of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Weather Underground was created when Bill Ayers, domestic terrorist and Obama friend, left SDS and founded the weathermen organization.

ACORN is known for its strong voter registration efforts. President Obama volunteered with ACORN back in the days. What is so troubling is that ACORN had felony charges filed against them by Washington State. Several paid ACORN employees and supervisors for filing out more than 1,700 fraudulent voter registrations. Also, in March 2008, an ACORN worker in Pennsylvania was sentenced for making 29 phony voter registration forms. In 2008 they registered 1,315,037 voters. In December 2004, February 2005, October and November 2006, March 2007, and April 2008 ACORN was accused of voter fraud. After everything that ACORN has been accused of, Obama is going to allow them to help with the U.S. Census in 2010. What a disgrace If it smells like a cat, meows like a cat, and walks like a cat, it's a cat !!

Global Warming ??

The experts believe that global warming is caused by us, humans. Little by little we are starting to figure out, as we knew all along, that global warming does not exist. It is a trend/cycle that the earth is going through. Here is proof:

The bitter cold and record snowfalls from two wicked winters are causing people
to ask if the global climate is truly changing. The climate is known to be
variable and, in recent years, more scientific thought and research has been
focused on the global temperature and how humanity might be influencing it.
However, a new study by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee could turn the
climate change world upside down.

Scientists at the university used a math application known as synchronized chaos and applied it to climate data taken over the past 100 years. "Imagine that you have four synchronized swimmers and they are not holding hands and they do their program and everything is fine; now, if they begin to hold hands and hold hands tightly, most likely a slight error will destroy the synchronization. Well, we applied the same analogy to climate," researcher Dr. Anastasios Tsonis said. Scientists said that the air and ocean systems of the earth are now showing signs of synchronizing with each other.

Eventually, the systems begin to couple and the synchronous state is destroyed, leading to a climate shift. "In climate, when this happens, the climate state changes. You go from a cooling regime to a warming regime or a warming regime to a cooling regime. This way we were able to explain all the fluctuations in the global temperature trend in the past century," Tsonis said. "The research team has found the warming trend of the past 30 years has stopped and in fact global temperatures have leveled off since
2001.

The most recent climate shift probably occurred at about the year 2000. Now the question is how has warming slowed and how much influence does human activity have? "But if we don't understand what is natural, I don't think we can say much about what the humans are doing. So our interest is to understand -- first the natural variability of climate -- and then take it from there. So we were very excited when we realized a lot of changes in the past century from warmer to cooler and then back to warmer were all natural," Tsonis said. Tsonis said he thinks the current trend of steady or even cooling earth temps may last a couple of decades or until the next climate shift occurs.

AIG Mess

By now everyone knows about the AIG mess, they awarded $165 million of their portion of the bailout to employee bonuses. We now find out that 73 AIG executives received $1 million or more bonuses. AIG says that they had to give the executives bonuses due to contractual obligations. Sen. Chris Dodd (D) is trying to recoup some or all of the money by proposing a tax of the money. He is diligently working on this because during the $787 billion bailout negotiations last month he added a clause to the section referencing "executive bonuses" that read:
Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009. Due to this, AIG executives are exempt. Now he has his work cut out. More to follow because this is far from being over.

Another One Bites The Dust

El Salvador has fallen to the hands of the leftist group FMLN. Mario Funes, the ex-CNN EspaƱol and popular TV morning host, has won the presidency with 51% of the vote. Experts have warned that with a FMLN victory the country can turn communist. El Salvador has had very close ties with the U.S. throughout the years and has been the Latin American country that has kept their troops the longest in Iraq. The Obama administration has assured Salvadorans that it would work with any leader elected. President Bush warned in 2004 that a FMLN victory would hurt ties. I guess Obama has no problem talking with a leftist president whose party affiliation is a group the Regan administration battled with in the 1980’s.

Wasteful Spending

An earmark is a congressional provision that directs approved funds to be spent on specific projects. In other words, a congressmen/woman would ask for a specified amount of money for a project that would benefit their constituents. Hence some of the stuff mentioned below. Don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff below is necessary, but not during these tough times. We need only to spend our money on things that will create jobs and stimulate the economy. That’s it !! Below are some highlights of both of the wasteful spending bills passed in the last two months. After you are done reading, please ask yourself how ANY of these earmarks mentioned below will help stimulate the economy.

$787 billion stimulus bill

-- Up to $198 million in pensions for Filipinos who fought alongside the U.S. during WWII.

-- $450 million NASA - for "Science" and another $200 million for "Aeronautics."

-- $28 billion is being provided to put kids in special education, Head Start and child care and development programs for disadvantaged children.

-- $100 million for the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program
-- $200 million to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund Program
-- $300 million for "Violence Against Women Prevention and Prosecution Programs"
-- $900 million for the IRS for the "Limitation on Administrative Expenses"
-- $1 million for the Railroad Retirement Board for administrative costs
-- $2 billion for the Drinking Water State Revolving Act
-- $50 million for Health and Human Services to carry out injury prevention programs
-- $1.1 billion for studies on the effectiveness of different medical treatments

-- $200 million to upgrade labs and facilities for the Department of Agriculture "to improve workplace safety and mission-area efficiencies"
-- $10 million for urban canal inspection
-- $16 billion to pay for student financial aid
-- $1 billion to pay for the U.S. Census
-- $600 million to pay for a fuel-efficient federal auto fleet
-- $650 million for the Digital Converter Box Program to help the constantly delayed transition from analog television
-- $485 million to the Forest Service for "hazardous fuels reduction and hazard mitigation activities in areas at high risk of catastrophic wildfire"
-- Up to $1 billion for "summer activities" for youths as old as 24
-- $40 million for the occupational research agenda
-- $3 billion for the Centers for Disease Control wellness programs and vaccinations
-- $410 million for Indian health facilities
-- $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstrations

On February 25, 2009, President Obama said while addressing Congress, “Everyone in this chamber—Democrats and Republicans—will have to sacrifice some worthy priorities for which there are no dollars. And that includes me”. Why was the Omnibus bill signed a few days with 8,000 earmarks worth over $7.7 billion? What happened to “sacrifice”? President Obama’s answer is, “I am signing an imperfect omnibus bill because it's necessary for the ongoing functions of government.” I think sometimes he forgets that he is the only person that can demand for something to be done again. Why didn’t he throw the bill back to Congress and say, “Fix it.” Thanks again President Two face !!

$410 billion Omnibus Bill

Below are the Top 10 wasteful earmarks in the $410 billion Omnibus bill Obama signed in private, not in public, last week. According to experts, there are almost 8,000 earmarks in the bill totaling $7.7 billion.

#10. $1.7M for a honey bee factory in Weslaco, TX

#9. $475,000 to build a parking garage in Provo City, Utah

#8. $200,000 "tattoo removal violence outreach program to could help gang members or others shed visible signs of their past"

#7. $300,000 for the Montana World Trade Center

#6. $1 million for Mormon cricket control in Utah

#5. $650,000 for beaver management in North Carolina and Mississippi

#4. $2.1 million for the Center for Grape Genetics in New York

#3. $332,000 for the design and construction of a school sidewalk in Franklin, Texas

#2. $2 million 'for the promotion of astronomy' in Hawaii

#1. $1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa

Victims Of Socialism

The article below is a “clear picture” of our future when Obama creates and implements universal healthcare. No where that universal healthcare is being used has it worked. The first steps have been taken when Obama set aside $634 billion when he announced is budget. So now that the money has been accounted for in the budget, it is only a matter of time before program “picks up some steam”.

Deadly Rationing: The gatekeeper for Great Britain's national health care system is denying cancer patients drugs that would extend their lives. Why? Because the medication is considered too expensive.

What's a life worth? Apparently not much in Great Britain.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, the government agency that decides which treatments the National Health Service will pay for, has effectively banned Lapatinib, a drug that was shown to slow the progression of breast cancer, and Sutent, which is the only medicine that can prolong the lives of some stomach cancer patients.

Banning beneficial drugs due to cost is nothing new in Britain. NICE, which has to be one of history's most ironic acronyms, forbade the use of Tarceva, a lung cancer drug proven to extend patients' lives, and Abatacept, even though it's one of the only drugs that has been shown in clinical testing to improve severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Once again, we have to ask: Do we really want to use the British system as the model for a U.S. health care regime?

Promises of an effective, cost-effective health care system operated by the federal government are cruel fabrications. The British system shows that the state makes a mess of health care. So does the Canadian plan, which is plagued with unhealthy and often deadly waiting times for treatment.

The Swedish government system is no better. It also refuses to provide some expensive medication and, inhumanely, refuses to let patients buy the drugs themselves. Why? According to a Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons article, bureaucrats believe doing so "would set a bad precedent and lead to unequal access to medicine."

Like Canadians, Swedes are subjected to long waits. They also have denial-of-care problems that sometimes lead to death.

A reasonable person would see the record of repeated failures in government-run medicine as evidence that such a system is not sustainable. Yet every central planner thinks he or she — his or her immediate group — is smart enough to correct the flaws of socialist programs and therefore has the moral authority to force others to participate in his experiments. It is the same thinking that will move a person to say we are the ones we've been waiting for.

Medicine needs experimentation to progress. But experiments need to stay in the laboratories, not spread to the domain of public policy. Americans are not lab rats. They deserve to be treated with dignity and not shoved aside as expendables to be sacrificed in deference to a sacred totem of the political left.

U.N. - Useless Nations

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said yesterday during a private meeting with lawmakers that the United States was a “deadbeat” donor to the world body. Has this jackass forgotten that the U.S. pays, or should I say WE, taxpayers, pay 22% of the organizations almost $5 billion operating budget. He made the comment because the U.S. has been late making payments to them. Is this the same U.N. that helped the Iraqi dictator? YES

Between 1997 and 2002, the Oil-for-Food program generated over $67 billion in revenues for the Iraqi regime. With little U.N. oversight, the Iraqi dictatorship was able to circumvent and exploit the program. It is suspected of selling Iraqi oil at bargain basement prices that benefited numerous middlemen while overpaying for various imports, which rewarded suppliers. The Iraqis then demanded kickbacks from both groups. The program was officially ended in November 2003.

The U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO) estimates that the Saddam Hussein regime generated $10.1 billion in illegal revenues by exploiting the Oil-for-Food program, including $5.7 billion from oil smuggling and $4.4 billion in "illicit surcharges on oil sales and after-sales charges on suppliers.” The scale of the fraud was far more extensive than the GAO had previously estimated.

Is this the same U.N. whose peacekeepers have abused people including children in four continents? YES

Incidents of sexual exploitation in U.N. peacekeeping missions around the world have become depressingly routine. Abuse by U.N. peacekeepers has taken place in the Congo, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Guinea, Liberia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, and Cambodia—in four continents altogether. Congress and the Bush Administration must act to help ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that future abuses are prevented.

Are we the real “deadbeats”? I wish we, the United States, would stop funding this horrible organization because all it provides is fraud and scandal. That’s why I call them the Useless Nations.

How much has been lost ??

How bad is the economic crisis ?? Blackstone Group LP, private equity company, says that up to 45% of the world’s wealth has been destroyed by the global crisis. The damage has been during a year and a half. I hope for the sake of our economy, the Obama administration steps up the effort to bring back the economy to where it is once was when the stock market topped 14,000. Does anyone remember that ?? It seems so far away, but it was only October 12, 2007 when the Dow closed at 14,093 points. Since then, the Dow has dropped almost 49% (6,865.05 points). They have their work cut out for them.

Japan and North Korea

Something to watch as it progresses in the coming weeks. North Korea is planning on sending into orbit a satellite via a rocket April 4 – 8. The problem is that North Korea has threatened that any country that shoots down the rocket carrying the satellite would mean an “act of war”. Japan has expressed concerns for the rocket launch because it will fly over their land. It feels that the rocket posses a threat to them. Japan feels that they are entitled to protect themselves and might employ their missile defense system they have in place.

Sheriff Arpaio Investigated

I was going to paraphrase the article, but I rather just paste the important parts so you can get the “jist of it”. The article is very important because it just proves how specific members of Congress want to give illegal aliens the same rights allotted to a U.S. citizen. The same thing will happen with all the terrorists that were in Guantanamo.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in Arizona following requests by congressional Democrats and allegations by liberal activists that the department has violated the civil rights of illegal aliens.

The investigation focuses on Sheriff Joe Arpaio and dozens of officers under his command who were trained through the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Agreements of Cooperation in Communities to Enhance Safety and Security (ACCESS), which partners federal and local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws. (The Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division is known popularly as ICE.)

In a letter dated March 10, 2009, Loretta Smith, acting assistant attorney general at the DOJ, detailed what her department would be investigating: "The investigation will focus on alleged patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures conducted by the MCSO, and on allegations of national origin discrimination, including failure to provide meaningful access to MCSO services for limited English proficient (LEP) individuals. In conducting the investigation, we will seek to determine whether there are violations of the above laws by the MCSO," the letter says.

Sheriff Arpaio's efforts to enforce immigration laws have been the focus of previous criticism, but Arpaio has defended his department and the results his ICE-trained officers have netted.
Concerning the DOJ’s investigation, Arpaio told CNSNews.com:  “I will not back down. What I am doing is upholding the laws of the state of Arizona, and I will not be persuaded to turn my back on my oath of office as sheriff of this county.”

In an August 2008 press release, Arpaio's office detailed those results. "While the Sheriff’s illegal immigration and human smuggling operations conducted on the streets and roadways here have netted nearly 2,300 arrests, another very successful effort to locate illegal aliens has been quietly happening inside Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jails," the release said.

It continues: "Despite the growing criticism of the Sheriff’s illegal immigration fight by some valley politicians and activists, Sheriff Arpaio says 60 detention officers trained by ICE officials have conducted over 106,000 interviews and investigations of inmates booked into jail since April of 2007.

"In those 18 months, 16,000 inmates were determined to be illegal aliens. Either they have already been deported or will be deported after being tried and/or serving their sentences for crimes committed in the valley. The work being done be Arpaio’s detention staff is a likely contributor to the recent reduction in crime in the valley,” the press release added. "That number of 16,000 represents a full one-third (1/3) of all inmates in the United States who have had holds placed on them after being identified by jail or prison officials as illegal aliens."

The press release goes on to say that 20 percent of inmates in the Maricopa County Jail are illegal aliens and that of those, 2,000 illegal aliens - 70 percent - were arrested for felony crimes.

Those felony crimes committed included the following: forgery, 12 percent; kidnapping, 10 percent; aggravated assault, 7 percent; driving under the influence, 7 percent; drug charges, 27 percent; robbery, 3 percent; murder, 3 percent; and theft, 4 percent. The Democratic Congress members have also asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to launch an investigation into the training provided by ICE.

What is wrong with ICE trained officials stopping illegal immigrants from crossing the border? Nothing. What is wrong with arresting an illegal immigrant, having them serve the time for their crime, and then deporting them? Nothing. That is what the Sheriff Arpaio is doing in Arizona. The article doesn’t mention this, but I wonder what did those opposed suggest we did with the illegal immigrants who were stopped at the border and the ones in jail for a crime they committed?

FBI Investigates Obama Appointee

Vivek Kundra was named by President Obama as the federal government’s chief information officer on March 5. Yesterday, FBI agents served a search warrant at the office of D.C.’s Chief Technology Officer, which is the position Kundra previously held before joining the administration. His last day in office was March 4. The FBI says they were there as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. So now we have tax cheats and someone being investigated by the FBI in Obama’s administration. That’s not counting the countless others that withdrew their name from consideration due to their own “issues”. I am glad Obama has surrounded himself with people who are great judges of character.

C.N.N.

I guess when we say that CNN stands for the “Communist News Network”, we weren’t that far off. Aside from having a news bureau in Havana for many years like no other news channel, disseminating the news from Cuba with a leftist mentality, and completely ignoring the human rights violation on the island, why would people say CNN must be communist? Mauricio Funes is a presidential candidate for the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front in El Salvador. That is the same communist revolutionary group that President Ronald Regan battled in the 1980’s. He was recruited by the FMLN, who has turned into a political party, to be their candidate for the presidency. Here’s the catch: Funes is a former CNN en EspaƱol correspondent and a morning show talk show host. He considers himself to be “El Salvador’s Barack Obama.” How many more leftists communist are still in hiding at C.N.N.?

10 People Die in Shooting in Alabama

Michael McLendon killed 10 people including himself yesterday in a two county shooting spree in Alabama. Among the 10 killed, 5 were members of his family. People that knew him would have never thought he was capable of this and it was not in him to do this. Authorities do not have a motive for the killings, but people who know him say that he just “snapped”. This is a very sad story.

Cuba Si, Columbia No

Below is an excerpt of a great article from Investor’s Business Daily written yesterday. It depicts how the Obama administration has rewarded Cuba and given the dictatorship a free pass while Columbia, a major U.S. ally, is pushed aside and not rewarded. Please read the rest of the article.

Congress may soften the embargo on communist Cuba soon. But with an authentic ally like Colombia still shut out of a free trade agreement that Congress promised, it sends a hideous message. The $410 billion Omnibus spending bill, now working its way through the Senate for a second time, contains a buried provision to ease U.S. economic sanctions on the island. Cuban-Americans will be given special travel privileges to visit relatives on Cuba, and be able to send unlimited remittances.

Restrictions on food and medicine sales will be dropped, and goods sent to Cuba may even qualify for U.S. trade credits. The Castro dictatorship, which controls all economic activity in Cuba, would no doubt benefit handsomely from this. Fees skimmed from remittances would beef up state coffers by the billions, while trade credits will let Cuba buy our goods with our money. Spies, too, will have a field day with freer travel.

And in return for all this, Castro gives . . . nothing.
